Volunteering

We have over 300 volunteers who generously dedicate around 31,000 hours of their time to support our staff, ensuring that patients receive outstanding and compassionate care.

Over the past year, our volunteers have supported patients, visitors and staff by:

🚕 4,800 miles driven by our buggy drivers, ensuring patients arrive at appointments on time and in comfort.

🎙 1,800 hours of live radio broadcasted through Hospital Radio Reading.

🎁 900 gifts were donated, wrapped, and delivered to patients spending Christmas in hospital.

🔎 490 visitors explored our Medical Museum, showcasing the history of healthcare at the Royal Berkshire Hospital since the 1800s.

💕 268 hours were spent as our patient companions sat with patients to support them.

Our team of amazing volunteers come from all walks of life with a common goal of helping others. Volunteers who join our team do so for a variety of reasons including a desire to help others, to give back to the NHS after a personal experience, as a way to fill their spare time or to get experience for a future career.
