About us

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest general hospital foundation trusts in the country and the main provider of acute and specialist care services for West Berkshire.

We provide acute medical and surgical services to Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire and specialist services such as cancer, dialysis and eye surgery to a wider population across Berkshire and its borders.

The Trust is one of the leading employers in Berkshire with seven sites across the region including the landmark Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. We employ around 7,500 staff and serve a population of around 1,000,000 people.

We support our clinical services with pioneering research and innovation, taking opportunities to roll out best practice and pioneer new technologies in key specialities including stroke care.

As a result of our last CQC inspection in January 2020 and our Maternity Service inspection in November 2023, we are rated ‘Good’ overall. Reflecting the high standards of care on offer, recent patient surveys show that over 90 per cent [check latest figures] of patients rate their overall experience of services as excellent, very good or good.

In a typical year, we:

•    deliver 3,,400 babies
•    see over 130,000 patients in our Emergency Department
•    carry out over 680,000 outpatient appointments
