Reading Urgent Care Centre

Reading Urgent Care Centre is committed to giving you high-quality healthcare. We offer a range of health services and information as well as advice and treatment for a range of minor illnesses.

We see patients referred from GP practices, from NHS 111 and from the Royal Berkshire Hospital Emergency Department (A&E). We can also see ‘walk-in’ patients.

Patients do not have to be registered to see a clinician at the Reading Urgent Care Centre.

If you need urgent health care - but it’s not a 999 emergency - call 111 or go to NHS 111 online and you will be directed to the best service for you, which could be an appointment at the Urgent Care Centre if appropriate.

Reading Urgent Care Centre is open from 10am – 10pm, 7 days a week – Monday to Sunday – and on public holidays like Christmas and Easter.

Examples of conditions we treat

  • Mild Abdominal Pain, Indigestion, Constipation, Vomiting and Diarrhoea  (for severe abdominal pain or if feeling very unwell please attend the Emergency Department or call NHS 111 or 999)
  • Allergies, Hay fever, Bites, and Stings
  • Breathing Problems
  • Coughs, Colds, Virus, and flu-like symptoms
  • Emergency Contraception
  • Minor ailments, for example headaches, high temperature, and dizziness
  • Minor Genitourinary Problems for men and women
  • Nose, Throat, Eye and Ear Symptoms
  • Skin Complaints – Rashes, Sunburn, Head lice

People with muscle and joint injuries – strains and sprains, should attend the Minor Injuries Unit opposite the hospital's Emergency Department.

When is it busy?

Please note the Urgent Care Centre can get busy at certain times particularly in the mornings (10am/12midday) and afternoons (1pm/3pm) with Mondays and Fridays the busiest days during these times so might need to wait for advice and support.

Choosing the right service

The Reading Urgent Care Centre  is here when you need us, but other local services may sometimes be better suited to meet your needs, depending on the situation.

If you are not sure where to access support, you can call NHS 111 or access the NHS 111 online symptom checker.

You can also visit your local pharmacist, who can provide advice and support for a range of minor health concerns and medication queries; they can also prescribe medicine for some conditions without the need to see a GP.  There's more details on the NHS website: How pharmacies can help.

Pharmacies can also provide certain emergency medicines even if you don't have a prescription. There's more details on the NHS website: Emergency prescriptions.

Thank you for helping us ensure you receive the most appropriate care as quickly as possible.
