Redlands Ward
Redlands Ward is our dedicated unit for patients having planned (elective) orthopaedic surgery.
We are staffed by an experienced multidisciplinary team, including specialist consultants, resident doctors, specialist nurses, healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals who support your recovery.
Redlands Ward has 22 inpatient beds and 8 day case beds. The ward accommodates both male and female patients and includes:
- 7 four bedded single sex bays
- 2 side rooms
The ward team will welcome you and give you a provisional time for your operation. Surgery times can occasionally change due to unforeseen circumstances, but staff will keep you updated throughout the day.
Your length of stay will depend on:
- The type of surgery you are having
- Your individual medical needs
- Your progress with therapy and recovery
These details will be discussed at your pre operative assessment and reviewed again during your admission. Our aim is to help you remain as independent as possible during your stay.
We have developed a pathway so patients can now return home on the same day as their operation. Research shows that going home sooner can support:
- Better range of movement
- Improved mobility
- A more comfortable recovery in your own environment
Whether same day discharge is suitable for you depends on several factors, including your previous level of function, therapy assessments, and the time of your surgery—earlier operations increase the likelihood of going home the same day.
At Redlands Ward , we recognise the vital role families and carers play in the care and wellbeing of our patients. We are committed to supporting patients with additional needs, and we understand that standard visiting hours may not always meet the requirements of every individual or their loved ones.
We understand that standard visiting hours may not always meet the requirement of every individual or their loved one.
What this means for you:
- Flexible access: we offer flexible visiting hours for patients who may benefit from additional support from family members or carers.
- Individualised support: our staff will work with you to arrange visits that accommodate the patient's specific needs, routines, and comfort.
To arrange flexible visiting times, speak with the care team or the nurse in charge.
