Dermatology

The Dermatology Service at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of skin, hair and nail conditions in adults and children.

Our specialist team manages common conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne and rosacea. A significant amount of our work focuses on the assessment and management of skin cancers and suspicious skin lesions. 

We are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care tailored to each patient's individual needs.

What we treat

The Dermatology Department provides specialist care for a wide range of skin, hair, and nail conditions affecting adults and children, including:

  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Hair and scalp disorders
  • Nail conditions
  • Skin cancer and suspicious skin lesions
We also care for patients with a range of complex skin conditions requiring specialist assessment and ongoing management.We work closely with patients, their families, and primary care colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Treatments we offer

Treatment will depend on your diagnosis and may include:

  • Topical treatments
  • Oral medications
  • Phototherapy (light treatment)
  • Immunosuppressive treatments
  • Biologic therapies

We also provide a range of procedures, including:

  • Skin biopsies
  • Cryotherapy (freezing treatment for selected lesions)
  • Curettage and cautery
  • Skin surgery

For patients diagnosed with skin cancer, we offer specialist assessment, surgical treatment, and follow-up care where required.

How to get an Appointment

Most patients are referred to the Dermatology Department by their GP or another healthcare professional.

Your GP will assess your condition and, if specialist advice or treatment is needed, will refer you to our service. Referrals are reviewed by a dermatologist and prioritised according to clinical need.

Some patients may receive advice and guidance through their GP, while others may be offered a face-to-face or virtual appointment.

If you are concerned about a changing mole or another potentially cancerous skin lesion, your GP may refer you urgently through the NHS Urgent Suspected Cancer pathway.

The Dermatology Department does not accept self-referrals. Please speak to your GP if you require specialist dermatology advice.
