As part of the ongoing construction work for the Trust’s new MRI community diagnostic centre at West Berkshire Community Hospital, the south entrance from London Road will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles from Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May 2026. Patients will still be able to access the hospital via the North Entrance on Turnpike Road.

The new state of the art facility will be home to two new MRI scanners and will be capable of delivering 17,500 MRI scans annually, meeting the growing demand for advanced diagnostic imaging across Berkshire West.

This facility will be the latest addition to the development of radiology facilities at West Berkshire Community Hospital. In 2021 the hospital became part of the government’s Community Diagnostic CDC Programme and has seen substantial investment and improvements into imaging services. This includes the opening of a new mammography unit, DEXA scanner and two ultrasound suites in December 2024, and two digital plain film x-ray machines and cone beam CT scanner in 2023.

Andy Statham, Chief Strategy Officer said: ‘This work marks the next phase of this exciting development that will bring improve diagnostic facilities closer to the homes of residents in Newbury and surrounding areas. We recognise that this temporary disruption might cause some inconvenience, and we would like to thank patients, visitors and local residents for their understanding.’
