National maternity survey results for maternity care at Royal Berkshire
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has today published its annual National Maternity Survey results for 2025, which show overall that women’s experiences at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust were positive about their maternity care.
Launched at the beginning of the year, the survey asked women questions about a wide range of maternity issues and aspects of care, including whether they felt staff listened and being involved in decisions about their care. Responses were received from 131 eligible people who gave birth at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in April 2025.
The Trust results showed:
- 94% of women had confidence and trust in our staff looking after them during labour and birth
- 95% felt we treated them with respect and dignity during labour and birth
- 96% felt they were involved in decisions about their care
The survey results also showed a significant increase in women having birthing partners staying with them on the ward after birth, following work with Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership to successfully introduce family bays last year.
Katie Prichard-Thomas, Chief Nursing Officer said, ’The maternity survey provides us with key feedback from women and families using our maternity services from their initial contact with a midwife, to the care provided to them at home afterwards. We are pleased to see the results, as they not only provide reassurance for those using our services but reflect on the dedication of our maternity staff to provide support and high quality safe care. We know there are still areas we need to improve and the survey highlights some of these, including postnatal care and continuity of care. We are committed to focusing on what we can do better and listening to women so we can improve their experiences.’
The Trust is working on a number of initiatives to further improve maternity care and we are working closely with Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership, to help identify further improvements to shape our services to better meet the needs for women and families.
