NHSE Wessex and Thames Valley International Medical Graduate Welfare Service
The new NHSE Wessex and Thames Valley International Medical Graduate Welfare Service is now open.
This role has been developed to provide inclusive, tailored welfare support to new-to-UK Clinicians (in particular International Medical Graduate doctors) across the whole of the NHSE Wessex and Thames Valley regions.
From January 2026, this service will be open to:
· All IMG doctors in training posts anywhere in Wessex and Thames Valley Deanery
· All IMG doctors employed by any Trust or GP surgery (including locally employed doctors) within the Wessex and Thames Valley Deanery
· Support spouses / partners of doctors eligible to use the service (this can be discussed with IMG doctors during their first appointment with a Welfare Officer).
This Welfare Service is here to support the new-to-UK Clinicians by promoting wellbeing, providing a welcoming point of contact whilst helping IMGs access the guidance and opportunities they need to thrive both professionally and personally.
There will be opportunities for 1:1 Teams Meetings - support offered may include help with signposting and advice regarding accommodation, travel, childcare, national insurance, tax and linking with local support networks and existing health and wellbeing offers.
Starting work in a new healthcare system or in a new country can be both exciting and challenging. Please know that you are not alone in this transition – we are here to help.
