Maternity Assessment Unit

The Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU) is an outpatient department to assess and monitor pregnant women with urgent or ongoing obstetric complications.

You may be referred to the MAU in pregnancy if your community midwife has any concerns about you or your baby's health. The community midwife will ensure that the MAU phone number is in records to refer to, and tell you which issues you will need to talk to us about if they arise.

We do have to prioritise care for those in most need, so it is a good idea to bring something to read while you wait to be seen. We will endeavour to see you as soon as possible, but if you are worried about the waiting time, please do speak to the staff on duty.

You can also phone the MAU at any time for advice, and if appropriate, you will be advised to come in and be assessed in the MAU if you have any concerns.
