Children's Occupational Therapy

Children’s Occupational Therapists help children and young people to be as independent as possible in everyday life. Occupational Therapists consider environmental, physical, learning and sensory needs and their impact on the child’s participation in everyday activities.

We see children regarding:

  • Motor skills (fine and gross motor)
  • Everyday living skills: e.g. Feeding, dressing, scissor skills, pencil skills
  • Posture/seating needs: provision of equipment not provided
  • Access to learning environment e.g. physical disabilities
  • Impact of sensory processing difficulties on the above deficits

Our service is based around assessment and advice, however we do offer a range of follow-up and treatment sessions where appropriate. Sessions may be in the form of individual or group sessions and parent and teacher workshops. We work in partnership with the child, their parents/carers and other important people in the child's life such as their doctor, teacher and other health professionals.

We accept referrals from Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust consultants (please refer through EPR), GPs and external consultants. We cannot accept self-referrals or referrals directly from schools. Please note that school-aged children with an EHCP should be referred to the CYPIT Occupational Therapy service at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
