Physician Associates

In February 2021, Health Education England, Thames Valley and Wessex launched the School of Physician Associates. The School provides a coherent and strategic approach to education, teaching and CPD for all qualified Physician Associates (PA) in the region. There is a pan regional teaching programme and many development opportunities in areas such as mentorship, leadership and education. The school aims to form a collegiate PA identity and support PAs to develop within their profession.

Physician Associates are medically trained, generalist healthcare professionals, who work alongside doctors and provide medical care as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. Physician Associates are dependent practitioners working with a dedicated medical supervisor, but are able to work autonomously with appropriate support.

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest employers of Physician Associates in the UK. We currently have 31 PAs working in several medical and surgical specialities.

Please see out fantastic PA employers video to see the impact PAs have had in the Trust.

For further information, please contact RBFT Co-Lead PAs, Laura Taylor and Francine Olivero via email.

Also take a look at the Thames Valley & Wessex PA website with case studies and photos on the "Our PAs" section: Adam, Alice and Ruhel are the RBH PAs.
