Work experience gives those interested in a career in the NHS the opportunity to experience what happens in hospitals, to observe the day to day work of NHS staff and gain an insight into the varied job roles vital to the NHS. It will give you an understanding of the attitudes, behaviours and values that are expected in a healthcare setting.

The Trust offers clinical placements, allied health professions placements and non-clinical placements at set times across the academic year. To apply for placements in your area of interest, please see our ‘Upcoming Placements` section below. Please do not apply for any placements that are not currently advertised.
YEAR 11 PLACEMENTS
Work experience placements for year 11 students are in administration roles only. These can provide you with an insight into the hospital environment and the work that goes on.
YEAR 12/13 PLACEMENTS
Clinical placements are in various hospital departments. All placements are for 5 days during which you will experience 3 different clinical areas.
ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS PLACEMENTS
Allied Health Profession placements are for 5 days duration on prearranged dates. You will have the opportunity to experience 7 different roles.

ORAL, MAXOFACIAL & ORTHODONTICS PLACEMENTS
Oral, Maxillofacial and Orthodontics placements are for 2 days on prearranged dates. Placements are limited.
Placements in pharmacy are offered once a year as a group placement for a small number of students. Applications for this will be open later in the academic year.
MIDWIFERY & NURSING PLACEMENTS
Midwifery placements are for 2 days. Nursing placements are for 3 days. These are available on pre-arranged dates. Nursing placements will include experience across 3 different wards to give you a broader nursing experience.

NON CLINICAL PLACEMENTS
Non clinical placements are across the wider workforce within Royal Berkshire Hospital such as administration roles, finance, and engineering. Placements are for 2 to 5 days. If you would like to be considered for a placement please contact the Widening Participation officer at email@example.com
We will also be offering 5 day mixed non clinical placements with 3 pathways. These will be offered on set dates during the school year.

We are unable to offer longer term placements, or to offer placements to anyone who is not resident in the Berkshire or surrounding South Oxfordshire area.
The Trust offers placements for adult learners looking to undertake a health qualification and to pursue a career in the NHS. Placements are offered in clinical areas, allied health professions and non-clinical areas.
Adult placements are for a maximum of 3 days depending on the department you are interested in and their availability. Placements can be arranged throughout the year subject to the department’s availability.

INTRODUCTION TO MEDICINE DAY
Each year the Trust holds a Pre UCAS day for Year 12 students considering applying to study medicine. This includes speakers, a chance to talk to consultants and to take part in activities.
This year this will be held on Friday 2nd July 2021. Applications will open to students from Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Bucks. Details of the day and how to apply will be sent to your schools towards the end of May.
