West Berkshire’s ‘evolved ACS’ status means better care for patients in West Berkshire

Local healthcare leaders have welcomed news today (Friday 31 March) that the Berkshire West Accountable Care System being developed has been identified as an ‘evolved ACS’, sitting within the larger Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West (BOB) Sustainability and Transformation Plan.

The four principals across the ACS are:Julian Emms, Chief Executive Officer at Berkshire Healthcare, Luke March, Chairman, Steve McManus, Chief Executive Officer at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Cathy Winfield, ACS Leader and Chief Officer of the Berkshire West Clinical Commissioning Group

In a joint statement, the four ACS principal officers commented:

“We have welcomed this news today.  It is good news for patients as well as those delivering health care across west Berkshire.

“The ACS has been in development for over a year and the decision to award ‘emergent ACS’ status is testament to the maturity of the governance arrangements which are in place, and of the relationships across the partner organisations.

“This status brings with it benefits that will allow the parties to move ahead confidently, and at pace, to deliver the ACS’ aims, which are to integrate health and social care services, and deliver better quality of care for our patients across west Berkshire and efficiencies for all service providers.

“For example, we are already working together to maximise the use of digital technology which will help patients to avoid coming to hospital through the development of tele-medicine, or digital consultations, and we will provide more care closer to home through community health and social care teams.

“We look forward to working closely with the national leadership bodies to support the transformation of health and social care for the people in west Berkshire.”
