The department provides the complete range of elective (planned) and emergency urological services
Based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, with a dedicated ward and specialist urology procedures department, it also has outreach clinics in Wallingford, Henley, Newbury and Bracknell.
All consultants provide core services but the department was one of the first urology departments in the country to sub-specialise by consultant to optimise patient care.
The department strives to maintain the highest clinical governance standards and patient-focused care, incorporating the latest advances in the field. It has the only regional static lithotripsy machine and has pioneered the techniques of both local anaesthetic female urethral bulking injection and male slings for incontinence. We offer minimal access treatment of stones with laser or via percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL).
We are the only fully on-site ‘improving outcomes guidance in cancer’ compliant hospital for all urological cancers in Berkshire. We are the cancer centre for the southern half of the Thames Valley Cancer Network and the host hospital for IOG uro-oncology cases from the whole of Berkshire. As a consequence, we have a very busy urology procedures department and we pride ourselves on meeting most cancer targets.
The department is the only regional centre for prostate brachytherapy and the supra-regional centre for penile cancer. We are a high volume centre for Robotic surgery for all urological cancers, having been one of the first hospitals in the country to pioneer robotic radical prostatectomy.
We perform the following procedures for benign prostatic enlargement: Holmium laser prostatectomy, Rezum, Uro-lift and TURP
We offer Telephone, Video and Virtual clinics as well as Face to Face.
Urology procedures offers diagnostic testing and treatments for all urological problems.
