The Bereavement Team provide care and support for women and their families at Royal Berkshire Hospital following late miscarriage, stillbirth and babies who have sadly died shortly after birth.
We provide practical guidance, information and emotional support to families, helping to explain some of the formalities involved and guide families through some of the choices which are required at such difficult time, such as registration requirements, information relating to funerals, any tests undertaken (such as post mortem) and the offer of a follow up appointment with a Consultant Obstetrician . We can help you organise bringing your baby home if that feels right for you. We do not offer formal counselling but we can support you in finding specialist counselling and family led support groups.
If you have suffered a loss, we will usually care for you in a dedicated bereavement room (Willow Room) on Delivery Suite, where partners are welcome to stay. We also offer a similar room called Mapledurham, where you might stay after you have had your baby.
Amy Wood and Sam Geddes are the Specialist Bereavement Midwives. We can be contacted on most weekdays, Monday to Friday, on 07500 123 912. This is a non-urgent telephone number. Please leave us a message and we will contact you on our next working day. Alternatively you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have an urgent query then please contact the Ward Clerk on 0118 322 7215. If this is related to your own health please contact your GP, or ‘out of hours’ GP where appropriate.
