Rapid Assessment Clinic for Older People

The Rapid Assessment Clinic for Older People (RACOP) is based in Outpatients 2 on level 2 in South Block. This service offers multi-disciplinary specialist assessment to older people who need to be seen within 24-48 hours in order to prevent hospital admission. This includes those who:

  • Need medical and/or multidisciplinary (physiotherapy, occupational therapy) assessment and/or treatment
  • Have rapid onset of urinary incontinence and/or confusion
  • Require other specialist assessment
  • Require blood transfusion or management of acute hyper-calcaemia

Other clinics

  • The Movement Disorders Clinic takes place on a Monday, and is led by Dr Apu Chatterjee, consultant in Elderly Care
  • The Stroke Clinic takes place on Tuesdays, and is led by Dr Andre Van-Wyk, consultant in Elderly Care
  • The Falls Assessment Clinic takes place on Thursdays, and is led by Dr Michael Pearson, consultant in Elderly Care

How to find us 
Exit the multi-storey car park on level 2. Follow the signs for all wards and departments, and turn second left after the Welcome Desk. Continue through the Centre Block main corridor to the very end and turn left after Jamaica Blue cafe. Outpatients 2 is the first department on the right as you head towards Pathology/Blood Tests. Buggies run by the Voluntary Services Department are available to give a lift to those less able - ask at the main reception desk if you would like to use the buggy service.
