Emergency Department during Covid-19

Temporary Emergency Department Arrangements

We have changed the layout of the hospital so that the areas treating coronavirus patients are completely separate from other public areas of the building.

  • The existing emergency department (now known as ‘Hot’ ED) is now only for emergency patients with symptoms of COVID19
  • ‘Cold’ ED has moved to Endoscopy and is operating as usual for all patients who do not have symptoms of COVID19
  • Children’s (paediatric) ED is now in the Pain clinic, and is for children who do not have symptoms of COVID19
  • People with minor injuries will need to go to one of the following sites:

      - West Berkshire Community Hospital, Newbury Opening Hours: 10:00-18:30

      - Townlands Community Hospital, Henley Opening Hours 10:00-18:30

Please note that Bracknell Healthspace is temporarily closed.

Do You Have Coronavirus Symptoms?

We are advising anyone with coronavirus type symptoms of a new, continuous cough or temperature of 37.8 to follow guidelines and go to 111 online or, if you don’t have online access, to ring NHS 111 and self isolate for 7 days.

If your symptoms worsen or don’t get any better, ring your GP who will advise you over the phone and may refer you to one of our new primary care hubs for further assessment.

How to Find ED (Temporarily Located in Endoscopy)

Endoscopy is on Craven Road, next to the Maternity block (to the left as you’re facing the building). Access is from Craven Road only and not through the main Hospital.

The Pain clinic is next to Endoscopy.

Endoscopy is fully accessible for wheel chair users and there’s a drop-off bay in front.
