The most common question patients ask is “when can I go home?” In an effort to streamline the discharge process so that patients and their families can plan more effectively, we have established a standard time – 10.00am – for all discharges.
Before patients are discharged, members of their health care team will discuss discharge plans with them and provide information on follow-up appointments, medication regimes and other instructions necessary to follow at home.
If a patient is unable to leave the hospital by 10.00am on the day of discharge, they will be transferred to our Discharge Lounge, (Battle Day Unit, Battle Block) by wheelchair or on foot, accompanied by a porter or a nurse while they wait to be collected by their families or by hospital transport. Some patients may be sent to the lounge whilst they wait for medication to be dispensed.
The Lounge is staffed by a senior staff nurse and a health care assistant.
The lounge is open Monday – Friday 9.00am – 6.00pm.
The lounge is staffed by a professional health care team who can assist you where necessary and answer questions about:
If you are being collected from the Discharge Lounge, your escort can park on Level 0-3 of the multi-storey car park.
