Dermatology is a very busy department within General Medicine. Clinicians and our specialist nurses see mainly outpatient referrals, but a significant number of acute dermatological conditions are referred into the department from GPs, Accident & Emergency and other specialities within the hospital.
We see patients at the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH), West Berkshire Community Hospital (WBCH) in Thatcham, Townlands Memorial Hospital in Henley-on-Thames, Bracknell Healthspace and at two local GP surgeries.
Referrals come from the whole of Berkshire and beyond. Approximately 19,000 patients are seen in our clinics each year.
These referrals encompass a wide variety of common and rare skin complaints including skin cancers, inflammatory dermatoses including psoriasis and eczema, acne, pigmented lesions, blistering skin conditions and hair and nail disorders.
We have a number of specialist dermatology clinics including paediatric dermatology, a skin cancer two week wait service and multi-disciplinary clinic, a transplant skin clinic, a vulval dermatology service, a biologics clinic and dermatology / rheumatology combined clinic.
The rest of our outpatient caseload is seen within general dermatology clinics.
We offer phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, iontophoresis, steroid injections for the treatment of problematic keloids and botox therapy (funding approved) for axillary hyperhidrosis as outpatient treatments.
We offer phototherapy, the phototherapy / photodynamic therapy machines are located at both RBH and WBCH. We have an established male genital clinic and combined HIV / Gum service.
