Community and home-birth service

Midwives are grouped into teams based in the community and are linked to Children’s Centres and GP surgeries and are supported by Maternity Support workers.  

Community midwife

Community midwives also provide care in the hospital setting and you will be allocated a named midwife at your first booking appointment.

    Messages will be retrieved once daily and any return calls will be made within 24 hours.  Please provide full information eg full name, and contact telephone number clearly on any message left.

The Community Midwives also provide a home birth service.  The option of a home birth will be discussed at the time of your first booking appointment.  If you are planning to have your baby at home, the midwife will make arrangements to have detailed discussions with you and your partner from 34 weeks.  Please note that from April 2017 we have launched a dedicated Home Birth Team, details can be found on the Home Birth Service link to the left of this page.

The Poppy Team are a dedicated team of specialist midwives providing care to whose women who may require extra support.  They are also based in the community, but link closely with the wards in the hospital.
