The Colorectal Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital has five consultants who provide a comprehensive specialist service in all areas of colorectal surgery.
We have a very close relationship with the Oncology Unit to provide cancer patients with integrated treatment for large bowel malignancy, with pre-operative short and long course radiotherapy prior to rectal surgery, and adjuvant chemotherapy after colonic resection.
We have two colorectal cancer nurses to allow high levels of patient support at the time of diagnosis and ongoing support during treatment. Three stomatherapists support both inpatients and community-based patients with a stoma.
All areas of benign colorectal disease are treated including fistulae, incontinence, prolapse and haemorrhoids.
