This section should provide you with information about your child's visit to hospital. Please use the links on the left hand side to find out more about each ward or department your child may be visiting.
Visiting
Please see the individual ward pages, the links appear on the boxes below.
How to find us
If you are visiting the Royal Berkshire Hospital, the best place to park is in the multi-storey car park. You can then reach the rest of the hospital from level 2, which is the Main Entrance. Please allow plenty of time to park and walk to the clinic or ward you are attending. The Main Reception desk will be able to direct you to the department you need.
Delays
Departments can be very busy, and if this is the case, appointment times may run late. Please speak to a member of staff who will be able to keep you up to date with any delays. Sometimes it may seem as though others are being called in before you, but this is likely due to there being multiple clinics running, or (like in A&E) due to the nature of other visits.
To deliver on our vision of “working together to deliver outstanding care for our community”, we need to think about the needs of all our patients and their families. We understand that hospitals can cause anxiety for children, young people and their families, and our strategy seeks to better support this community of patients in our health services.
We have three key drivers for the development of our strategy for children and young people:
Our Vision 2025
The strategy’s aim is to set out by our ambitions of what we can provide for children and young people by 2025. We have incorporated the views of our staff, patients and their families to build on our strengths and address the challenges we are facing.
Responding to the specific needs of children and young people
We have witnessed an increasing complexity in the needs of children and young people. If we fail to meet these specific physiological and psychological needs, this can have a damaging and long-lasting impact on our patient’s lives.
The NHS Long Term Plan
The NHS Long Term Plan includes a number of areas which relate to the health and wellbeing of children and young people. In this strategy, we will be addressing the following points which young people wish to see improved, including more accessible services for LGBTQ+ patients, better mental health support and the recognition of young people’s views.
