The Board and staff at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust have welcomed Steve McManus, the new Chief Executive.
Steve started his new role on 3 January 2017.
Chairman, Graham Sims, said: “We announced Steve’s appointment in October, but he started this week, and I am delighted, on behalf of the Board, to welcome him here to the Trust.
“Steve brings many skills to the Trust, including passion and enthusiasm which he has already demonstrated ahead of his arrival.
“I would also like to thank Mary Sherry, who has been an outstanding Acting CEO during a tough period and, I look forward to continuing to work with her as Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer.”
Mr McManus added: “I am delighted to have started at the RBFT this week. Over the past weeks I have been meeting with colleagues at the Trust however it is fantastic to finally get started. I am aiming to visit every ward and department across all Trust sites over the next two weeks, and I would love staff, patients, volunteers or visitors to stop me and say hello."
“I really understand just how challenging it is at the current time for the NHS and for the Trust. I am looking forward to working hard with all our staff to deliver what is expected of us for our patients.”
Steve began his career in the NHS in 1987 as a registered nurse. He completed his BA Hons in healthcare studies at Oxford Brookes University followed by a postgraduate certificate in evidence based healthcare from Oxford University. In 2002 he moved into management as a general manager at Radcliffe Infirmary and completed an MBA with Nottingham University Business School in 2006.
Steve then went on to University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, as a Divisional Director of Operations and subsequently as Chief Operating Officer. As a member of the executive team, he led the Trust through the process to gain foundation trust status.
