Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Young Adult Diabetes Team is holding their first event for young people with Type 1 Diabetes on Monday 19 December from 4-6pm at the Penta Hotel, Oxford Road, Reading (near Broad Street Mall, Argos side)
The event is kindly being sponsored by a number of local companies and will be offering top tips, goodie bags, food and refreshments. There will be a chance to win a range of prizes including a Libre handset and sensor, Skull Candy headphones, and iTunes vouchers. The team will also be giving out mini clubbing packs.
The event will include various topic stations ranging from driving, benefits, living away from home, sexual health, drugs and alcohol. There will also be an opportunity to attend a question and answer session and submit questions anonymously.
Young People Diabetic Nurse Specialist, Boikie Osupeng said: “Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong condition and, if untreated, it can cause very serious health problems. The RBH has range of outpatient services for children and young people with diabetes and we actively want to see our patients manage their condition well and lead full lives, despite the medication and on-going management of their diabetes.
“This event aims to highlight and help young people lead an independent life, like their peers, whilst also being aware of some of the dangers and manage their condition well. We hope this will be the first of many similar events we plan to hold in the future.”
This is the first event of its kind and the Trust will be welcoming ideas and suggestions on additional topic ideas and how to improve future events.
If you are a young adult aged 17-21 with T1 Diabetes and would like to attend, please contact the Young Adult Diabetes Team on: firstname.lastname@example.org or 0118 322 8811
The team look forward to hearing from you.
