Reading's New Urgent Care Centre

The Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is based on the first floor of the Broad Street Mall, Reading.

It is open seven days a week from 8am - 8pm.

There are 50 walk in appointments each day for people self-presenting with minor illnesses. You will be met by staff at the door who will triage you and either book an appointment or advise you on the most appropriate care for your ailment.

These are the sort of common minor illnesses that are seen by staff at the UCC:

Adults:

  • ENT (ear pain, coughs, colds, sore throats etc)
  • Dermatology
  • UTI
  • Women’s health - Thrush, BV etc
  • Men’s health – testicular pain etc
  • Infections
  • Non mechanical lower back pain
  • Exacerbation of long-term chronic illness
  • Medication repeat/reviews
  • Abdominal pain

Children:

  • Cough, cold and sore throat
  • Earache
  • Constipation
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Rashes
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting
  • Colic
  • Oral thrush
  • UTI
  • High temperature

The UCC cannot see the following cases:

Adults:

  • All foreign bodies
  • Non blanching rash
  • Seizure
  • Overdose / alcohol / substance withdrawal
  • Cardiac chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Head injury
  • Dental pain
  • Diabetic emergency
  • DVT
  • Light sensitive headache
  • Stroke

Paediatrics:

  • Safeguarding concerns
  • Limping children
  • Post op complications
  • Non blanching rash
  • Seizures
  • Head injury
  • All foreign bodies
  • Overdose
  • Apnoea

Please contact NHS 111 online or your GP. If it is a life-threatening emergency like a suspected stroke, heart attack or severe bleeding, ring 999 or go straight to the Emergency Department.
