Patient Involvement

Patients and carers can get involved in improving and developing services at the Trust by:

  • becoming a Patient Leader
  • taking part in ad-hoc projects and initiatives
  • joining the Register of Readers to review patient information leaflets
  • becoming a Foundation Trust member

Patient Leaders

  • Are you a patient, carer or just interested in our work?
  • Would you like to work with us to improve our patient care and experiences?
  • Would you like to work with us to influence healthcare in your local area?

We are looking for people to work with us to design and change patient services for the better. We will give full training through a series of seven workshops and provide ongoing support – we would like you to bring your enthusiasm, encouragement and interest to lead other patients in this work.

To apply to participate please register at www.jobs.nhs.uk/ and search under Ref: 193-VOLUNTEER-PL.

Register of Readers

The Register of Readers is a group of people who have previous experience of the Trust’s services and have volunteered to read new and revised patient information written by Trust staff. This information may be about medical conditions, treatments, where to get support or may be general leaflets about the Trust’s facilities and services.

We usually ask for feedback within two weeks – but sometimes sooner if it’s urgent. If you have other commitments that mean you can’t get involved at any point in time – just let the Patient Information Manager know.

If you would like to join the Register of Readers, please email the Patient Information Manager (jane.burnett@royalberkshire.nhs.uk) stating if there are any areas you are particularly interested in, e.g. diabetes, surgery, elderly care, paediatrics, women’s health etc.

Alternatively, telephone 0118 322 8706.

Become a member of the Trust

Becoming a Foundation Trust member will give you an opportunity to become involved and play a part, share your views and influence the way the hospital is run and support the Trust, ensuring that your ideas are considered in the development of services. You also get to vote in election for our Council of Governors – or perhaps stand as a governor yourself. Whether you just want to show your support or get involved on a regular basis we welcome new members.
