HelpNHSHeroes teams with Reading School to help RBH staff
HelpNHSHeroes, a ground-breaking initiative to provide NHS workers with on-site access to groceries has launched a pop up shop to support hardworking NHS staff at the Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) in Reading.
The campaign was started by volunteers after Nurse Dawn Bilbrough’s social media plea for shoppers not to empty supermarket shelves, and aims to help all NHS hospital workers to source food and essential supplies between shifts.
The programme enables hospital staff to pre-order a food box via a cloud based technology, and book a time slot to collect it the next day. The boxes are provided at cost price, are nutritionally balanced and will feed a family of four for two days.
The pop-up shop is located in the grounds of Reading School – conveniently situated opposite the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Steve McManus, Chief Executive Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust says: “I’d like to thank HelpNHSHeroes, Reading School, PwC, Salesforce and all of the volunteers involved in this initiative for the support they’re providing. It is really important that our hardworking staff can easily buy groceries when they need them, and the pop-up shop will provide a simple, convenient resource so that they can do that.
Ashley Robson, Headmaster Reading School said: “Community is one of the core values of the school and is integral to our ethos, so we are proud to be able to put our values into action through helping our neighbours.
“We know that hospital staff and volunteers are working flat out to help our community, so by letting the hospital use our grounds during this pandemic, we feel that we’re playing a part in helping the community too”.
HelpNHSHeroes founder Jason Mawer comments: “We have been incredibly lucky to receive the support of established experts such as PwC and Salesforce to ensure that we have the technology to support the programme on a local and national basis.”
Help for NHS Heroes was founded by Jason Mawer, and is supported by PwC, Brakes, Worldpay, Salesforce and Igloos.
