Townlands Memorial Hospital is approximately a 15-20 minute walk from Henley Railway station. The bus service from Reading will stop in Henley town centre and it is approximately a seven minute walk to the hospital. Bus 153 Connect Henley goes from Henley Town Hall and stops in the hospital grounds.
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust took over the outpatient activity at Townlands Memorial Hospital in 2011, providing care closer to home to the population of Henley and south Oxfordshire. Patients can access any of the services via referral from their GP or other healthcare professional.
The outpatient services currently available at Townlands are audiology, breast care, bariatric (weight loss), cardiology, fertility, gynaecology, general surgery endocrinology, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) clinics - please see further detail below, neurology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, dermatology, renal, trauma & orthopaedics, rheumatology, urology, elderly care, plastics and stroke. We are also now able to offer a few what we call one-stop clinics, where you can see the consultant and have a scan or a procedure at the same time. It is hoped that more of these services will be provided at Townlands in the future, enabling more people to benefit by seeing a clinician closer to home.
There is a small x-ray department on site for GP, minor injury units (MIUs) and outpatient referrals.
The department is open Monday to Friday (except Bank Holidays) 8.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm–5.00pm. Patients referred by their GP must pre-book an appointment by telephoning 01865 903086. Patients referred from MIUs and outpatients do not need an appointment if they are seen on the same day as their clinic appointment.
A new Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), audiology and plastic surgery hub opened this month at Townlands Memorial Hospital, Henley.
Clinics in these specialities have been retained at Newbury, Bracknell and Reading and they will act as satellites to the Henley hub.
The modern facilities we have in place at Townlands brings a number of benefits including the air handling system. Therefore, we have to ensure a 20 minute ‘rest’ period between patients to comply with COVID rules, instead of an hour on the RBH site. So the move to Townlands enables us to see more patients each day.
We recognise that by moving ENT, plastics and audiology to a single hub site may mean longer journeys for some.
We are retaining services at all our sites and are working with local authorities and travel companies to support travel to Henley.
Where possible, we will continue to encourage patients to opt for virtual appointments and check-ups from the convenience of their own homes, without the hassle of journeys, parking, taking time off work and arranging child care.
There is limited parking on site. During peak periods it is often difficult to find a parking space. Please take this into consideration when deciding how and when you travel to the hospital.
A new 'Automatic Number Plate Recognition' (ANPR) will be installed and live from Thursday 19 December 2019 to ensure the limited spaces available are used by hospital patients and staff. Patients, including blue badge holders must enter their number plate into the tablet at reception, which will then provide free parking.
