The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust's Voluntary Services team is appealing to the local community to embrace the spirit of Christmas and donate a gift to help bring some festive cheer to patients spending the holiday period in the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Lynn Bayliss, the Trust's Voluntary Services Manager, who is retiring in the New Year, has been running the Giftree appeal at the RBH for a number of years. For her final appeal she is hoping the Trust will receive enough donations to ensure that every patient who is in the hospital on Christmas Day gets a present to unwrap – that’s around 400 gifts.
Lynn said: “We all know that being in hospital isn’t great at any time, and over the holiday season it can seem even gloomier. We are asking people to spare a thought for those who will be away from family and friends at this time, and donate a present to our Giftree to help brighten their day.
"Local people have been very generous in previous years and we are hoping that they will be again. We are especially hoping that we can ensure all of our elderly patients, who can be overlooked at this special time, each receive a gift.
“Perfect pressies for someone elderly in hospital would be - nice soaps, or shower gel and shampoos, shaving kits, puzzle books and pens. For children - a toy or colouring book and pencils would be ideal."
It's really easy to donate a gift. All you need to do is to bring an unwrapped present to the Giftree in main reception at The Royal Berkshire Hospital, pick a label from the tree and place it on the present. You can even add a message saying who you are, and then just leave the labelled gift under the tree. Please remember not to wrap your present or we won’t know who we can give it to!
