Winter vomiting

The winter vomiting virus is known to handwashing
be affecting the local community, prompting
an important appeal from the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

We have a small number of patients who have displayed the symptoms of the virus and we are anxious to take all possible steps to ensure its effects are minimised. We would also remind visitors to the hospital that they too have a vital role to play.

Over the past week a number of people have been unwell while visiting relatives and friends and we wish to stress our message for people to stay away if they have any of the symptoms. It is important that anyone who has suffered from sickness or diarrhoea – or feels unwell - does not to come into the hospital until at least 48 hours after the end of the symptoms.

The patients you intended to visit will understand - and appreciate you staying away until you are fully recovered. Visitors should also remember to use the hand cleansing facilities before coming into wards and again when they leave.

Everyone needs to play their part in ensuring that we protect our patients from the virus. In the home and the workplace people can help protect themselves from becoming a victim of the virus by exercising sensible precautions - particularly remembering to wash their hands properly with soap and water before preparing food and after visiting the toilet.
