Lion Ward

Lion Ward is an inpatient paediatric ward for children from one day old to 16 years (18 in special circumstances).

Specialities include oncology, trauma and orthopaedics and planned surgery. If your child is staying overnight, please tell the ward staff if you would like to stay with them.

Ward visiting hours: Open visiting for parents between 14.00 - 20.00. Other visitors: Seek advice from nurse in charge. The number of visitors allowed is at the discretion of the nurse in charge.


How to prepare / you might like to bring:

  • Cool comfortable day clothes
  • Nightwear, dressing gown and slippers
  • Noiletries
  • Favourite toy and/or comforter (e.g. dummy/blanket)
  • Nappies, as our supply is limited
  • Regular medication. Please bring any medication that has been prescribed for your child and give it to your child’s nurse. These will be given back to you when it is time to go home
  • Something for you to do. We have plenty to occupy the children on the wards

Teaching: If your child is going to be on the ward for long, the key teacher will link with your child's normal school and plan individual work for them. Provision can be made for children to sit all national exams on the ward if needed. School is held on the ward Mon-Fri every morning in term time and there are four teachers every day.

 

Other information

  • Information on children will only be given to parents or recognised carers.
  • Visitors under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Play therapists provide toys and activities at the bedside or in the playroom for children of all ages.

l How to get to the ward.
Park in the multi-storey car park in Craven Road. Join the Main Entrance Block at level 2. Turn right past reception, passing the shops (signed All Wards and Departments). Beyond the welcomers desk, take the stairs or lift to level 3.
