Lion

If you are under five bring your red book

Welcome to Lion Ward!

Lion Ward is a ward for children and young people from one day old to 18 years. We specialise in a wide range of cases including cancer, broken bones and planned surgery. Lion is an inpatient ward which means that you can stay with us overnight or longer.

Lion is based on Level 3, Centre Block at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, London Road, Reading, RG1 4EU. Our number is 0118 322 7519 / 7515.

What should I bring?

If you are under five please bring your red book with you. We have a wide range of toys, games, crafts, books and DVDs that you can play with whilst you are with us.

You might like to bring comfortable clothes, nightwear, a dressing gown and slippers. Please bring any medication that you take and give it to your nurse so that they can continue giving it to you. If you wish, you can bring small amounts of money to buy extra items during your stay.

What's it like?

Normally one of your parents can stay with you overnight if you want them to. When you arrive you will be introduced to the doctors and nurses who will be looking after you.

Some people prefer being in wards with people of both sexes. If you would prefer just to be with people of your own sex, however, please ask a nurse who will do everything possible to meet your request.

You can be creative by painting, crafting, drawing, designing and writing things for our display boards.

If you are going to be with us for a while, school is held on the ward every weekday morning in term time. You can study all your school subjects and you will be offered lap top computers and board games to learn with.

If you like, you can complete one of our feedback surveys.
