Maternity

The RBH is one of the biggest maternity
units in the area offering a comprehensive maternity service where almost 6,000 babies are born every year.

We cover a large area in West Berkshire from Lambourne in the West to Bracknell in the East.

We are a team of midwives, obstetricians, anaesthetists plus support staff who between us, offer the full range of maternity care covering the antenatal, labour and postnatal periods. 

A special care baby unit (Buscot ward) is situated close to the maternity department within the same building. Ten per cent of our babies require help from the paediatricians and nurses who work in this unit every year primarily because they are born too early.

Women may choose to have their babies at home, or at Rushey Birth Centre. Our home birth rate is higher than the national average.

Much of the care in the antenatal and postnatal periods is carried out in the community near to women’s homes however if more specialist help is required, this is available within the Maternity Unit.

Specialist midwives - We have midwives who specialise in Diabetes, HIV, Bereavement,  Screening, Substance Misuse, Domestic Abuse, Child protection, Teenage pregnancies, Ethnic minorities, Clinical Risk, If you need to be seen by one of these midwives your community midwife will refer you.

• Buscot Ward for babies requiring intensive, high dependency or special care
• Breast feeding support for new mothers
• Day Assessment Unit antenatal and some post natal women requiring investigation and/or monitoring
• Delivery Suite for women in labour
• Iffley Ward for antenatal and postnatal women, high care obstetrics, transitional care babies
• Marsh Ward for postnatal woman
• Rushey Midwifery Unit  

How to get there

Park in multi-storey car park in Craven Road. From multi-storey car park either walk along Craven Road to Maternity Unit or exit car park on Level 2 and follow signs to Maternity Unit. Take lift or stairs in Maternity Unit to Level 3.
