Children's Accident and Emergency, and short stay unit is an emergency service, as well as being a service for same-day GP referrals. Children may be observed in the Observation Ward for up to four hours.
Children's Accident and Emergency is in its own building, set back between the Main Entrance and Maternity Block on Craven Road, next to Adult Accident and Emergency.
The roadway between these two buildings is for ambulances only, but there are drop-off zone spaces on level 1 of the multi-storey car park on Craven Road.
We offer all parents who have a child attending A&E a free parking permit. Please ask the nurse in charge about this.
Please allow plenty of time to park and walk to the clinic or ward you are attending. The Main Reception desk will be able to direct you to the department you need.
Matron: Sue Timperley
On your child's visit you may meet a member of the Play Team. Our play leaders help your child during their time in hospital through play and distraction. This can be very helpful for reducing anxiety, and soothing when an uncomfortable test may be needed.
Children's A&E does not have appointment times. Children are seen in order of priority depending on their condition.
