Nearly 50 members of staff in ICU,

ex-patients, friends and family have
formed a team to run the Reading Half Marathon.
The energetic team will be running to
raise money for some new haemofiltration machines in ICU which will
benefit critically ill patients with kidney failure. Their target
is £45k and they have already had some very generous donations from
ex-patients.
“We really appreciate all the kind donations we have had so
far,” says Consultant Intensivist Ian Rechner. “However, we still
have a long way to go to reach our target and that is why it is
great that so many members of the ICU team are getting involved and
running the half marathon to help.”
And it is not just members of staff that are pulling on their
running gear for the occasion:
“I will be running as I am indebted to the RBH ICU and this will
go a small way of showing my gratitude,” explains ex-patient
Matt Wiltshire. “One of the many treatments I had included the use
of a haemofiltration machine and without it I would have died.”
