Urological cancers are all the cancers that can affect the organs in the urinary system, these include: 

  • Bladder
  • Kidney
  • Penile
  • Prostate
  • Testicular
  • Urothelial
Diagnosis

If you have been referred for a possible urological cancer as mentioned above, you will need various investigations to confirm a diagnosis. This may include a biopsy of the area, blood tests and also scans such as ultrasound, CT, MRI and/or bone scan.

A diagnosis and decision on treatment cannot be made till all the relevant investigations are completed.

Multi-Disciplinary Team

All new patients with a urological cancer are discussed at the weekly Multi-disciplinary meeting (MDT). It’s an opportunity to discuss each patient with a variety of specialities including surgeons, Oncologists and radiologists to decide a treatment plan.

The information is then shared with you when you come for your appointment.

Treatment

Your treatment will be dependent on the type of cancer diagnosed and also the stage. Treatments offered include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted or hormone therapies.
