Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy team is made up of Church image
of England, Methodist, Muslim and Roman
Catholic chaplains who are employed by the Trust to provide for the pastoral, spiritual and religious care of the hospital faith community.

The chaplaincy has honorary representatives from Jewish, Sikh, Buddhist, Baha’i and Hindu faiths in the local community.

It operates across the Trust and also offers chaplaincy services to Oakwood, Duchess of Kent House and Classic Hospital, Dunedin.

The chaplaincy offers counsel, pastoral, religious care and support to patients, their families, friends and members of staff.  We aim to provide this in a sensitive, appropriate, efficient and confidential way so that all will find strength, comfort and meaning through the exploration of their experience of being in hospital.

The chaplains are available and present throughout the hospitals. Together with Chaplaincy visitors, they visit the wards each week.  Requests or referrals for visits, religious or sacramental ministry and pastoral support are welcome.

We operate a 24-hour, on-call service.  We aim to respond to the pager within 10 minutes and to attend an emergency within 30 minutes and other calls within 24 hours.  To call a chaplain, please ask a member of staff to ring the switchboard who will contact the on-call chaplain.  Non-urgent messages can be left on extension 7105.

Chapel opening times:

The RBH Chapel is open and lit during the day and night and for many people is a place of prayer and quiet.  (RBH Chapel is shut after 10.00pm for security reasons).

The Sanctuary is designed to be used by people of all faiths or none, there are no religious symbols.  It is a hope that people will find this haven of peace for quiet reflection and contemplation.
