Berkshire Cancer Centre £1m Appeal

We have recently committed £1m of charitable funds to support the on-going replacement and upgrading of our treatment machines. We have ambitious plans to develop and expand the Cancer Centre treatments and techniques, to take care of future requirements and needs of the community. To achieve this we are seeking to raise another £1m.

Environment
The Berkshire Cancer Centre is housed within one of the most iconic buildings in Reading and one of the oldest hospitals in the world. Providing modern efficient healthcare in this environment is our greatest challenge. It is our belief that our patients, their families and our staff should have access to the best care environment. We have ambitious plans to develop the cancer centre and while we work towards this we need to continue to invest in the current facilities. We value your feedback and will continue to improve services and your experience with us one visit at a time.

With your support we have been able to provide:

• Extra equipment to enhance patient care
• TVs in the waiting rooms in Outpatients and Chemotherapy
• Coffee and Tea facilities
• Wheelchair access at our reception desk
• Improved toilet and baby changing facilities

Technology
We are committed to providing the best patient care supported by the latest techniques. We have a long history of using charitable funds to support
innovations in care and keep us ahead of the curve. We believe we can offer radiotherapy treatment on par with the very best in the world. We have recently committed £1M of charitable funds to support the replacement and upgrading of our treatment machines. We now want to raise another £1M to continue to develop and expand with:

Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) c. £140,000
Precise adjustment of a patients’ position enables high doses of radiation to be delivered.
Surface-guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) c. £390,000
Allows fast, accurate positioning of the patient allowing treatment to automatically pause if movement occurs.
Electronic outcome monitoring c. £160,000
Specialist software allowing data analysis from many patients to be shared with researchers to improve and individualise treatments.
Advanced treatment verification c. £250,000
3D reconstruction of delivered radiation allowing a precise check against each patient’s treatment to monitor delivery over the full course.

With your support we can change the lives of thousands of people and enhance patient care. For further information about the Berkshire Cancer Centre please talk to a member of staff or contact the Royal Berks Charity 0118 322 6969.

Staff
When people think of cancer care they often think of high-tech equipment and modern drugs but technology and innovation wouldn’t be as effective without the skills of the hundreds of trained healthcare professionals that deliver it. Our staff in the Berkshire Cancer Centre are a vital part of the treatments we offer and our greatest asset. Our patients trust and value our staff and surveys show over 98% of patients would recommend our service to others. Our commitment is to ensure that our staff are trained to the highest possible levels over and above the NHS standard of care. With your support we can provide additional investment in training and development.
