Measuring our performance

In 2010/11 the Trust was named as the top hospital for achieving exceptional standards in patient care by an independent provider of healthcare intelligence named CHKS.

Also in 2010/11:

  • the NHS regulator, the Care Quality Commission licensed the Trust to practise ‘without conditions’ at each of its seven registered sites
  • following inspections at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and the West Berkshire Hospital sites the Care Quality Commission found them to be meeting all of its standards of quality and safety that were reviewed
  • the stroke unit was named ‘best in the country’ at the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership Awards
  • the Trust was named as having one of the best records of MRSA (a bacteria causing healthcare associated infections) amongst acute hospitals in the country and had no hospital acquired cases for over a year
  • more patients were able to benefit from local anaesthesia and the Trust was one of the first hospitals in the country to offer shoulder surgery under local anaesthetic
  • our Cardiac (heart) team provided the most efficient heart attack service in England and Wales with 96 per cent of patients receiving treatment within 150 minutes and 94 per cent within 90 minutes of arriving at hospital
  • mortality rates in the hospital in 2010/11 were within the expected range.
