The Council of Governors is elected by
the members of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
The Council of Governors is chaired by
Stephen Billingham, who also chairs the Trust Board. The Vice Chair
is Vera Doe.
Role of the Council of Governors
The broad roles envisaged for the Council of any Foundation
Trust are as follows:
- Ambassadorial - representing and promoting the Trust and
its activities within the local community
- Guardianship - acting as guardians to ensure the Trust
operates in a way that fits with its statement of purpose and
complies with its authorisation, and acting in a trustee role for
the welfare of the organisation
- Advisory - providing a steer on how the Foundation Trust can
carry out its business in ways consistent with the needs of the
members and the wider community
- Strategic - advising on the longer term direction of the Trust
so that the Board can effectively determine its policies
