Human Resources

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest district general hospitals in the South East of England.

We are situated, principally, on the Royal Berkshire Hospital site. Employees of the Trust also provide a service to West Berkshire Community Hospital and the King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor (Prince Charles Eye Unit).

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust has a long history of serving the people of Reading and its surrounding area since its opening in 1839. The main site features an imposing grade 2* listed building of classical style which has been a major landmark in the town for over 160 years.

The hospital has been extended over the years and the main site currently covers a total area of 30,000 square metres. Battle Hospital was opened in 1867 and the two sites joined to form the Royal Berkshire and Battle Hospitals NHS Trust in 1993. Battle Hospital closed and moved into new buildings on the RBH site in 2005. In 2006 the trust become the first in the region to achieve Foundation Trust status and became the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust is very busy, with over 4,000 staff.

We are committed to continued development and innovation and have spent £99 million on a new hospital for Reading, consolidating and merging the two acute hospitals onto the Royal Berkshire site.

We now have a redeveloped hospital designed around the needs of our patients. We have refurbished the maternity unit, provided a new nursery for the children of staff and a multi-storey car park. We have opened a new Accident and Emergency Department, a new Radiology Department, new theatres, paediatric and surgical wards, a new integrated Cardiology Department including a Coronary Care Unit, procedures and elderly care wards.

We want our patients to have the best care and realise that this can only happen if we support and train our staff to manage the difficult and complex situations they face. We offer a wide range of training programmes including preceptorship, clinical leadership, management training and rotation programmes.

If you would relish the opportunity to work in a friendly and progressive environment where your ideas will be welcomed and supported, then join us now.
